Billie ”Bill” Gaither, 83, of Thomasville, passed away Friday, October 23, 2020, at Spring Arbor of Thomasville.
Born January 8, 1937, in Davie County, North Carolina, he was a son of the late James Byrd Gaither and the Eula Nichols Gaither. Bill served in the United States Air Force.
He is survived by his sons, Randy Gaither (Darby) of Lexington, Greg Gaither of Rural Hall; step-son, Harold Jones (Susie) of Mt. Gilead; step-daughter, Julie Jones of Charlotte, sister, Pauline Lurye of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Mitch Gaither (Shae) of Lexington, Allison Koonts (Daniel) of Landis, NC. Gaither was influenced by Southern gospel singers such as Jake Hess and Hovie Lister and by groups such as the Speers, the Statesmen, and the Happy Goodmans.
