Brian Clark was Prof. of Biostructural Chemistry at the University of Åarhus in Denmark. The department, which he founded in 1974, merged into the new Department of Molecular Biology in 1996. He was a member of the scientific staff of the British Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology from 1964-74 working in the Division of Molecular Genetics co-headed by Francis Crick and Sydney Brenner.
His expertise involves decoding of the initiation of protein synthesis and the structural elucidation of transfer RNA. His research interests centred on relation structure and function and identifying functional protein in functional genomics. Clark also advised on protein engineering and molecular gerontology.
He was former President of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB), member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) Council, member of the BankInvest advisory board, past chairman of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) and Chairman of TGIR (Task Group on International Relations) of the European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB).
